Bronwyn Rees - 'The Edge of Love'

Wednesday 3 - Sunday 21 August 2016

What is the edge of us? Where is it?

As I walk in this world of ours I wonder where I end and the world begins.

I love to walk in nature and enjoy the wilderness. But I carry food and water on my back, I wear protective clothing. I wonder what it would be like to be alone for days, and relying on nature to keep me alive. Obviously we all used to do it as human beings, but now we push it further and further away from ourselves.

Apart from the difficulty of survival, I think about how lonely it would be without my family, the people I have close to me in my home, whose company I want to share. Where is the edge of them and the beginning of me?

As Leonard Cohen says in Stories of the Street: We are so small between the stars, so large against the sky.
